The base is the quiet part. The shade is where the lamp gets a print, a colour, a little nerve. Both are finished in the city, and they leave as one piece.

The cloth is allowed to misbehave
Poppy, leopard, iris, zebra, a peacock eye, a cabbage rose. A plain drum is not the point. The print is chosen, then cut.

Lined, so the colour carries
A second cloth inside the shade. Coral with a gold hem. Hot pink with an emerald lining. The light comes through the print, not past it.

The base holds still
Bronze, nickel, stained wood. Column, urn, ring, branch, a stack of discs. We do not pour the metal here. We fit the shade to it.
Colour
A poppy red, a cobalt, a chartreuse, when the room can take it.
Finish
Assembled in Beirut. Checked for fit, cord, and light. Then it is a Charani.
